Elon Musk’s latest political gamble hasn’t exactly paid off — and now it’s hitting Tesla hard.
A new poll shows that a staggering 94% of Germans wouldn’t even consider buying a Tesla. That’s a brutal rejection, and it seems Musk’s outspoken political views have a lot to do with it.
Musk’s political moves — and where it all went wrong
Musk has been busy trying to play political kingmaker. After aligning himself with Donald Trump in the US, he turned his attention to Europe — backing Germany’s far-right party, AfD.
However, it didn’t go to plan. AfD was polling at around 24% last year. After Musk’s public endorsement? Their share of the vote dropped to just under 20% — and they were promptly shut out of coalition talks.
German voters didn’t appreciate Musk’s meddling, and now it’s spilling over into his business.
94% of Germans want nothing to do with Tesla
A poll by T-Online surveyed over 100,000 Germans about their future car-buying plans. When asked if they’d consider buying a Tesla, 94% said no.
That’s not just a dip in popularity — that’s a full-scale rejection.
Musk’s vocal support for AfD, which many critics have labelled as ‘neo-Nazis,’ seems to have been the tipping point. Germans have sent a clear message: they don’t want politics with their EVs.
Tesla’s stock is tanking — and Musk isn’t helping
Tesla’s troubles aren’t limited to Germany. The company’s stock has been in freefall since the start of the year.
Sure, the EV market is more competitive, and sales have slowed globally. But Musk’s public antics — including his bizarre salute on Inauguration Day — seem to be making things worse.
Investors are getting nervous, and Tesla’s value is taking a serious hit. If things don’t turn around soon, Musk may need to focus more on damage control than politics.
Is Musk becoming Tesla’s biggest liability?
Musk’s unpredictable behaviour and political entanglements are starting to weigh heavily on Tesla’s brand.
With the German market turning its back on the company and the stock price sliding, the question is no longer whether Musk’s politics are hurting Tesla — it’s whether he can stop the damage before it’s too late.
