Rishi Sunak sacked Nadhim Zahawi and it took him a long time.
Each day, hour, even minute that passed made him look even weaker than he already does as PM.
Sunak made his move on Sunday morning after receiving the findings of an investigation by his ethics adviser, Laurie Magnus.
Magnus concluded that Zahawi had broken the rules by repeatedly failing to declare an HMRC investigation into his tax affairs.
No need to step down as MP
However one Minister said there is no need for Nadhim Zahawi to step down as an MP.
The comment by the social care minister, Helen Whately, who was a minister at the health and social care department when Zahawi was in charge of the Covid vaccines programme.
Labour’s Angela Rayner took a different take on the matter.
She wrote: “This hopelessly weak Prime Minister has been dragged kicking and screaming into doing what he should have done long ago. But the Nadhim Zahawi tax scandal leaves many unanswered questions for Rishi Sunak. @AnnelieseDodds and I have written to the PM today. 1/2
“Rishi Sunak’s account doesn’t add up – and now he needs to set the record straight. How was Nadhim Zahawi able to breach the Ministerial Code SEVEN times? The PM must come clean on what he knew and when. 2/2”
