A group of UK millionaires is taking to the streets—literally—with a ‘battle-style’ bus tour to deliver a bold message: tax us more.
As the Government’s Spring Statement approaches, members of Patriotic Millionaires UK are pushing for a 2% wealth tax on fortunes over £10 million. They argue this could raise £460 million a week, enough to fix crumbling services, tackle debt, and create a fairer, more prosperous Britain.
🚌 Driving home the message
On Tuesday, 18 March, the group will take their campaign to key locations:
📍 Holborn and St Pancras – the Prime Minister’s own constituency
📍 Kensington – the most unequal borough in Britain
📍 Westminster – the heart of government
Their demand is simple: stop squeezing ordinary people and start taxing extreme wealth.
💸 ‘The money is there—tax it’
Julia Davies, an entrepreneur and member of Patriotic Millionaires UK, didn’t mince her words:
“We’re in London to drive home our message: to fix this country, tax us—the richest.”
She pointed out that the Autumn Budget promised stability, yet here we are:
🔺 Inflation is climbing
🔺 Utility bills are skyrocketing
🔺 The aid budget is being slashed to fund defence
“Cuts are not the answer,” she added. “The Government can raise billions without taking a penny from ordinary people—just by taxing the super-rich fairly.”
📊 The numbers don’t lie
Public support for higher taxes on the wealthy is overwhelming:
✅ 7 in 10 UK millionaires support it
✅ 75% of Brits agree with them
“We’d be proud to pay more to help build a stronger, fairer Britain,” said Davies.
🏛️ A choice between cuts and fairness
The tour isn’t just about raising awareness—it’s a direct challenge to Chancellor Jeremy Hunt.
Jake Atkinson from Tax Justice UK put it bluntly:
“Tax and spending is a political choice. The Chancellor must side with struggling families—not the super-rich.”
He added that taxing extreme wealth could generate tens of billions to:
🏥 Fix the NHS
🏘️ Build affordable housing
📚 Fund schools and local services
With the UK home to thousands of millionaires and billionaires, Atkinson argues it’s time for them to pay their fair share.
🌍 A global movement
This campaign isn’t happening in a vacuum. Just weeks ago, 370 millionaires and billionaires—including Abigail Disney and Richard Curtis—signed a letter to world leaders at the World Economic Forum, demanding a tax on extreme wealth.
The letter, titled “We Must Draw the Line,” highlights concerns that the super-rich buy political influence, while leaders lack the will to tackle inequality.
⏳ Will the government listen?
With rumoured cuts on the table, the question is: will ministers tax wealth—or let ordinary people foot the bill?
Patriotic Millionaires UK is making sure MPs can’t ignore the issue. Whether the government acts, however, remains to be seen.
