Nigel Farage’s popularity has taken a hit amid criticism of his stance on Ukraine. Meanwhile, Keir Starmer’s approval rating has climbed to its highest in six months, suggesting voters approve of how he has handled the crisis.
Farage under fire over Ukraine comments
Farage has faced backlash for his remarks about Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Critics have accused him of “fawning over Putin” after he blamed Zelenskyy for the tense exchange in the Oval Office last week.
During the row, Trump and vice-president JD Vance accused Zelenskyy of not showing enough gratitude for US military support. Farage sided with them, telling LBC:
“I think President Zelenskyy was very unwise to tell the Americans what would happen to them if they didn’t back him. Yeah sure, Trump and Vance bit back, but I think in diplomatic terms, Zelenskyy played it very badly.”
His remarks haven’t gone down well with the public.
Polls show Farage losing support
According to YouGov, the number of people with a favourable view of Farage has fallen from 30% to 26% since mid-February. Meanwhile, those with an unfavourable view have risen from 60% to 65%. That gives him an overall rating of minus 39.
Starmer, on the other hand, has seen his rating improve from minus 40 to minus 28.
Trump also losing favour—even with Reform UK voters
Farage’s friend Donald Trump isn’t faring much better in the polls.
Trump’s approval rating in the UK has dropped from minus 51 to minus 65. More surprisingly, even Reform UK voters are turning against him. His rating among them has nosedived from plus 38 to minus 8.
Zelenskyy, however, is seeing a boost. His approval rating now stands at plus 57, up from plus 48. Even among Reform UK voters, his numbers have climbed from plus 12 to plus 35.
As public opinion shifts, it seems Farage and Trump’s stance on Ukraine isn’t winning them any new fans.
