Brits aren’t holding back when it comes to Donald Trump’s upcoming state visit. Over 200,000 people have signed a petition demanding it be scrapped, sending a clear message to Downing Street and Buckingham Palace.
The campaign, launched by 38 Degrees, argues that Trump is “unfit to be celebrated” and urges the UK government to stop rolling out the red carpet. Their message? Britain doesn’t welcome his brand of politics.
🤝 Starmer’s invitation and Trump’s latest controversies
Last month, Keir Starmer met Trump at the White House, passing on an invite from King Charles. However, in the weeks since, Trump has ramped up his most controversial policies.
He’s escalated tensions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, cut vital USAID programmes, and hiked up tariffs on trade. Meanwhile, his close ties with Elon Musk—who has been accused of spreading misinformation about the UK—have only fuelled public anger.
📜 What can the petition achieve?
While the government hasn’t confirmed a date for the visit, campaigners believe a massive public backlash could force them to reconsider.
The petition is gathering signatures at lightning speed, urging Brits to “show Trump, The King, and the PM how unwelcome he truly is.” Organisers also didn’t hold back on criticism, highlighting Trump’s cosy relationship with Vladimir Putin.
⏳ Time is running out
38 Degrees is calling this a “terrible idea” that must be stopped before it becomes official.
“This is the same Donald Trump who, in recent weeks, has buddied up with Putin, cranked up tariffs on trade, slashed aid across the world, and berated Ukrainian President Zelenskyy in the White House,” the petition states.
With momentum growing, the question remains—will the government listen, or will Trump’s second UK visit go ahead despite the backlash? You can sign the petition here.
