In a lively exchange in the House of Commons, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer quizzed Chancellor Rishi Sunak about the financial challenges faced by Conservative MP George Freeman, who recently stepped down from his ministerial position citing difficulties affording his mortgage.

Starmer lightened the atmosphere by humorously remarking that “nobody could be failed to be moved” by the predicament of the Norfolk MP, who has publicly shared his struggle with mortgage payments. The Labour leader’s comment aimed to inject a touch of levity into the ongoing debates over economic policies and financial pressures faced by lawmakers.

Keir Starmer: "Nobody could fail to be moved at the plight of George Freeman(Tory MP), his mortgage has gone up by £1200 a month & he's been forced to quit his dream job to pay for it… have we finally discovered what they meant when they say we're all In this together" #PMQs pic.twitter.com/Z0tUge70Ka

Responding to Starmer’s jest, Prime Minister Boris Johnson took a jibe at the Labour frontbench, accusing them of being “confused” over tax cuts. Johnson’s remark came as the number of mortgage applications continued to rise, indicating a growing interest in property purchases.
