Donald Trump spent part of his Sunday doing what he does best—complaining.
This time, his target wasn’t the election, his legal troubles, or the media. It was a painting.
The former president took to Truth Social to vent his frustration over his official portrait hanging in the Colorado State Capitol.
“Nobody likes a bad picture or painting of themselves,” he ranted, before accusing the state of deliberately distorting his image. He then compared it to Barack Obama’s portrait, claiming it looked “wonderful” by comparison.
🖼️ Who’s really behind the painting?
Trump didn’t stop there. He blamed Colorado’s Democratic governor, Jared Polis, and demanded the portrait be removed.
“Jared should be ashamed of himself!” he fumed.
There’s just one problem—Polis had nothing to do with it.
The portrait was actually commissioned in 2018 after a prankster placed a photo of Vladimir Putin in the spot where Trump’s should have been. Since no one had raised funds for a Trump portrait, Republican Senate President Kevin Grantham stepped in, raising $10,000 through crowdfunding.
Artist Sarah Boardman painted the portrait, which was officially unveiled in 2019.
🎭 ‘Leave emotions at the door’
Boardman, who also painted Obama’s portrait, insists she approached Trump’s painting the same way.
“When I start to paint a portrait, it is the likeness and ‘essence’ of the subject which I strive to portray,” she told The Colorado Times Recorder. “Any personal feelings are not relevant and are left outside the studio.”
She also noted that the goal was for the portrait to stand the test of time, saying, “In 20 years, he will be another president on the wall—just historical background.”
😂 Critics mock Trump’s meltdown
Despite this, six years later, Trump is still stewing over his portrait.
His critics wasted no time mocking him online. After all, for someone who’s spent years branding himself as a tough, no-nonsense leader, throwing a fit over a painting isn’t exactly the strongest look.
