Sometimes, satire says it best. A Dutch comedy show has perfectly captured the state of world politics, taking particular aim at Donald Trump and his ally, JD Vance.
Trump, Vance, and a cringe-worthy question
Earlier this month, Trump and Vance clashed with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to the White House.
The most bizarre moment? Vance, the US vice-president, asked Zelensky if he had ever “said thank you” to Trump and the US for their support in Ukraine’s war against Russia. Because apparently, international aid now comes with a mandatory gratitude clause.
A sketch too good to ignore
A few days later, Dutch satirical show Klikbeet decided the whole thing was too ridiculous not to mock.
In their sketch, a man gets hit by a car. When emergency services arrive, they initially rush to help—until they ask the injured man a crucial question: “Did you say thank you?”
The clip is an obvious dig at how Trump and Vance have treated Zelensky. It’s gone viral, with many praising its blunt but brilliant message.
The internet approves
Reactions online have been overwhelmingly positive. One American wrote:
“I’m from the US and I approve the sarcasm of this message. I promise we’re not all as bad as the world thinks. We are embarrassed of our country’s leaders. So many of us hate what’s happening right now. We’re sorry.”
Another commented: “Dutch honesty makes great comedy.”
A third added:
“We (the Americans paying attention) are completely embarrassed by the leader of the free world. He shows us every day what a shake-down artist is.”
And one person summed it up simply: “Tragic, but so on point.”
When politics gets ridiculous, sometimes the only thing left to do is laugh.
