Nigel Farage found himself in an uncomfortable spot after being confronted with a tweet from none other than Elon Musk. The Reform UK leader was reminded that Musk had publicly criticised him in January, calling for a new leader for the Reform Party.
In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk said: “The Reform Party needs a new leader. Farage doesn’t have what it takes.” Ouch. The timing couldn’t have been worse for Farage, who had only hours earlier referred to Musk as a “hero” in an interview.
🤔 Kuenssberg’s Brilliant Question
While appearing on BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, Farage was hit with the awkward reminder. Kuenssberg displayed Musk’s post on a giant screen and cheekily asked, “Did he say sorry for making you look a bit daft?”
Farage, visibly squirming, managed a smile and responded, “We have spoken since.”
But the pressure didn’t let up. Kuenssberg pressed further, asking again, “Did he say sorry?” To which Farage hesitated before responding, “Elon says what he wants to say at any moment in time.”
💬 Musk’s Unfiltered Comments
Farage tried to brush off the comments by shifting focus. He explained that Musk had been critical of many of Trump’s former cabinet members recently and that his comments were just part of his usual unfiltered nature.
However, when asked again about their conversation, Farage shared that Musk had “been trying to encourage me in a few policy areas – ones I wasn’t prepared to go down.”
🏆 Farage’s ‘Cooler’ Image?
Farage attempted to steer the conversation in his favour by claiming that, despite the criticism, Reform UK was “certainly cooler than the other parties” – especially with younger voters in Britain. But it’s clear that Musk’s biting comments hit a nerve.
😳 An Unlikely Friendship?
Although Farage has often praised Musk and even called him a “hero,” this public spat suggests that their relationship may not be as smooth as Farage had hoped. The leader of Reform UK now faces a tough question: does he really want to be associated with a man who thinks he “doesn’t have what it takes”?
