Keir Starmer didn’t hold back when asked if he was “Nigel Farage in disguise” during a press conference at Downing Street. His response? A sharp rebuke of the Reform UK leader for “fawning over Putin” and skipping key parliamentary debates.
GB News Tries to Catch Starmer Out
The question came from GB News’ Christopher Hope after Starmer announced a major boost in defence spending. The prime minister confirmed that the budget would increase to 2.5% of GDP by 2027, funded by cuts to foreign aid.
The move sparked criticism from opposition parties and charities. However, GB News focused on a different angle—pointing out that Reform UK proposed almost the exact same policy in their election campaign.
Hope put it to Starmer directly: “Are you Nigel Farage in disguise?”
Starmer’s Fiery Response
Starmer didn’t miss a beat.
“Nigel Farage didn’t even turn up to the debate in Parliament today on defence spending. Nigel Farage is fawning over Putin. That’s not patriotism. That is not what working people need,” he shot back.
He went on to stress that his decision was about national security, not political point-scoring.
“As prime minister, my duty is to keep our citizens safe and secure. This decision ensures that. For 80 years, we’ve enjoyed peace. We need to fight for that to continue for future generations.”
A Clear Message
Starmer wrapped up with a firm stance:
“I’ve taken this decision with only one thing in mind—the people of this country.”
Meanwhile, Farage has yet to respond. But after being called out in front of the nation, silence might not be an option for long.
