Rishi Sunak has been slammed for parroting a promise Boris Johnson made time and time again.
The PM has claimed that the government has returned the nurses’ bursary scheme.
It was something Boris Johnson was always keen to claim, and it has been slammed by filmmaker Peter Stefanovic.
Full Fact
As Peter points out Full Fact wrote: “In December 2019, the Conservative government led by Boris Johnson announced the introduction of an additional £5,000 grant for all student nurses to help with living costs, with an additional £3,000 available for some eligible students. However, students would continue to pay their own tuition fees.
This is not the same system that existed before 2017, so in that sense it is not true that the old bursary has been “restored”.
Criticism has come the way of the NHS bursary scheme and maintenance loans. The latter was recently increased by 2.8 per cent, far less than the current rate of inflation recorded at 9.2 per cent in December 2022.
The government said it is “committed” to financially supporting medical students in England with the use of the NHS bursary and student loans.
A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: “We are committed to financially supporting medical students in England throughout their studies – with student loans and the NHS Bursary available for eligible students.”
Bull****
Lawyer and film maker Peter Stefanovic shared his new video and wrote: “Rishi Sunak now shamelessly using Boris Johnson’s debunked bull**** about “restoring the nurses bursary” as some kind of justification for not giving them the fair pay we all know they deserve is another all time low For struggling nurses everywhere let’s put the record straight.”
