It seems Piers Morgan got his stocking stuffed with jabs last night as Labour MP Wes Streeting dubbed him “the Grinch” during the year’s final episode of Question Time.
A Festive Grilling
The discussion took a turn for the comedic when the panel debated the Government’s ambitious pledge to build 1.5 million houses in five years. Piers, in classic no-nonsense style, addressed the audience in Beckenham, south London, and said bluntly, “It’s not going to happen, sorry Wes.”
Streeting, quick on the draw, shot back: “Oh, you really are the Grinch this Christmas, aren’t you?” prompting laughter from the audience and his fellow panellists, which included Tory MP Nigel Huddleston, Scottish Liberal Democrat Christine Jardine, and author Emma Dabiri.
Morgan, perhaps enjoying his Grinch moment, replied, “I don’t want to be the Grinch—it’s just not going to happen. In the same way it didn’t happen with the Conservatives.”
A Dig with a Dash of Rishi
Not content with just one quip, Streeting took the opportunity to reference former PM Rishi Sunak’s infamous £1,000 bet on whether deportation flights to Rwanda would take off before the election. In May, Morgan himself had declared Sunak the loser of that wager, and Streeting seized the chance to rub salt in the wound.
A Look Ahead
While the panel also tackled public sector pay and the future of health and social care, Streeting took the opportunity to highlight Labour’s plans, promising more details in the new year. “We’ve got fair pay agreements for care workers in the Employment Rights Bill,” he said. “This will improve our ability to recruit, retain, and value care professionals.”
See You in 2025, Question Time
As the year’s final episode wrapped, host Fiona Bruce reminded viewers that Question Time will return on January 16 from Northampton, followed by a stop in Stockport on January 23.
So, whether it’s housing, health, or a side of Christmas-themed roasts, the show promises to keep the debates lively. As for Piers Morgan, it seems even Grinches can’t steal the laughs on Question Time.
