Keir Starmer had a sharp response ready for Reform and Lee Anderson during Wednesday’s PMQs.
A Light-Hearted Start
Anderson, the MP for Ashfield, kicked things off by attempting to land a question about one of Reform’s favourite topics: net zero. But before he could dive into the serious stuff, he set the stage with a little joke. He told the chamber, “I come here every week to ask sensible questions.”
Cue the laughter from the opposition benches. He continued, “I expect sensible answers, but all I get are glazed-over expressions and waffle.”
The laughter died down as Anderson went for the real question: “If we became net zero tomorrow, by how much would it reduce the Earth’s temperature?”
Starmer’s Response: Net Zero as an Opportunity
Starmer didn’t miss a beat. He called achieving net zero a “huge opportunity” for the UK economy.
But then came the real zinger.
Starmer Slams Reform
Turning to the Reform MPs in the room, he cheekily remarked: “They’d have better ideas if they stopped fawning over Putin.” He added, “And as for the member for Clacton, he wants to be prime minister – but he can’t even lead a party that fits in the back of a taxi!”
Boom.
It was a clever swipe at the Reform party, which has often found itself under fire for its connections with controversial figures.

The PMQs Game Continues
While Anderson’s question may have been about net zero, it was Starmer’s playful but pointed remark that stole the show. The Labour leader proved once again that he knows how to make the most of the PMQs spotlight.
