Trevor Phillips didn’t hold back on Sunday morning, delivering a brutal comparison between Donald Trump and fictional mob boss Vito Corleone.
According to the Sky News presenter, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy didn’t walk into a diplomatic meeting at the White House—he stepped into a scene straight out of The Godfather.
Trump’s ‘mob boss’ move on Zelenskyy
Zelenskyy arrived in Washington expecting negotiations. Instead, he found himself in what Phillips described as a “pre-planned attack” from Trump and his deputy, JD Vance.
Trump’s message was blunt:
“You’re either going to make a deal or we’re out, and if we’re out, you’ll fight it out. I don’t think it’s going to be pretty.”
Classic mob boss energy, right?
Phillips: “He got the full Vito Corleone treatment”
In his Sky News monologue, Phillips painted a cinematic picture:
“Zelenskyy may have hoped to meet the kind of wise, principled American president we see in Hollywood—think Martin Sheen in The West Wing or Morgan Freeman in just about everything.
Instead, he walked into a re-run of The Godfather. Trump made him an offer he thought he could refuse, holding out for security guarantees in return for critical minerals.
He got the full Vito Corleone treatment—a brutal, made-for-TV takedown with a quote destined to be repeated for years: ‘Make a deal, or we’re out.’”
Zelenskyy left the White House empty-handed, refusing to sign a deal that would have traded Ukraine’s mineral resources for American military support.
Keir Starmer offers a warmer welcome
Zelenskyy may have been frozen out in Washington, but in London, he got a very different reception.
Keir Starmer welcomed him to Downing Street, making Britain’s stance crystal clear:
“You have full backing from across the United Kingdom. We stand with you, with Ukraine, for as long as it may take.”
A stark contrast to Trump’s “take it or leave it” approach.
