In a bewildering twist, President Donald Trump has once again cast doubt on the legitimacy of his electoral victories. During an interview on Fox News with Bret Baier that aired on Monday, Trump dismissed key facts about his 2024 win, claiming that “if you believe the whole thing, the whole thing is ridiculous.”
Swing States and Popular Vote?
Baier tried hard to remind Trump that he had swept the swing states and won the popular vote. However, when the Fox presenter mentioned that Democratic contender Kamala Harris “got 75 million votes in the country,” Trump was quick to cut in.
“Bret, excuse me! There are seven swing states. I won them all,” he declared, before adding, “By a lot.” When Baier pressed on with his line of questioning, Trump simply repeated that he had won the popular vote—echoing what had already been stated.
A Call for Unity, or Not?
Finally, when Baier asked whether Trump had considered ways to bring the country together, to reach out and find common ground, Trump replied, “I’d love to do it.” However, he soon shifted gears and reminisced about the “pre-COVID days” of his first term, boasting that “we were doing so well, the greatest we’ve ever done. There’s never been an economy like ours anywhere in the world.”
And naturally, no mention of the 2020 election was spared, with Trump once again railing about that controversial outcome.
Humour Amid the Chaos
It’s hard not to smile at the sheer absurdity of the conversation. One moment he’s insisting on the accuracy of his victory in the swing states, and the next he’s lauding an economy that only exists in his memory. For many viewers, it seems like a classic case of “Trump-ism” at its finest – a mix of bravado, selective memory, and a healthy dose of denial.
