Zarah Sultana isn’t holding back. The independent MP for Coventry South recently took a jab at Rachel Reeves, the Labour shadow chancellor, for her £150,000 salary and a bit too many freebies, including £7,500 worth of free clothes and tickets to see Sabrina Carpenter. Sultana’s question: does this represent the “change” Labour promised during last year’s general election?
🚨 Welfare Cuts Impact Families
In the House of Commons on 26 March, Sultana didn’t mince words. She pointed out that 25,000 more children have been pushed into poverty since Labour came to power. She also highlighted the government’s own report, which says over 250,000 people will be driven into poverty by these cuts. Out of those, 50,000 are children.
🙋♀️ Reeves’ Response
Rachel Reeves quickly fired back, stating that Labour’s plan is to provide “targeted support” for young people. However, critics are questioning whether these promises go far enough.
