As a group of Israeli settlers gather near the Gaza border, tensions rise not just between them and Palestinians but within Israel itself. At a recent event promoting the resettlement of Gaza, one Israeli woman made a chilling statement when asked about the Palestinians currently living there: “We should kill them. Every last one of them.”
Her comment highlights the extreme sentiments held by some of those hoping to move into Gaza, as the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians intensifies.
Resettlement Plans Amid Conflict
At Kibbutz Be’eri, just two miles from Gaza, families like Avi’s are waiting for the chance to move into the territory. “It would be our privilege,” Avi says, standing next to his wife and three children. His family is eager to claim land in Gaza once it’s deemed safe.
While they wait, the sounds of war are constant. Shells are fired into Gaza from nearby, underscoring the ongoing conflict. But despite the violence, many Israelis in this group remain determined to push ahead with resettlement.
A Shocking Statement
One of the attendees, Reshit, who comes from a military family, explained her support for the resettlement with certainty. But when another woman at the event was asked about what should happen to the Palestinians currently living in Gaza, her response was shocking: “We should kill them. Every last one of them.”
This violent sentiment has sparked outrage and deepened concerns about the growing divide between Israelis and Palestinians, with some fearing that such extreme views could lead to more bloodshed.
An Atmosphere of Tension and Entitlement
The event at Kibbutz Be’eri was meant to be a demonstration of strength and determination. While children played in tents and speeches were given on stage, there was an underlying sense of frustration and entitlement among the attendees.
Dozens of armed settlers gathered, expressing their belief that Gaza belongs to them. The mood was further heightened by the presence of Likud politicians, leading some to believe that the government may be supporting these plans.
Opposition and Counter-Protests
Not everyone agrees with the settlers’ ambitions. Counter-demonstrators arrived at the scene, separated by a line of police officers. They chanted slogans opposing the resettlement and waved banners calling for peace.
Mickal Frucktman, one of the counter-protesters, was horrified by what she witnessed. “What they want to do is illegal and it’s going to cause incredible problems,” she said. “It’s going to totally ruin Israel morally, if there’s any moral shred left.”
She added, “And there are still 101 hostages being held in Gaza. How can we even think of resettling this land while this situation continues?”
