Man City dominated the Ballon d’Or Top 10, last night, but no player managed to land the top spot.
Manchester City is the first team to ever win Club of the Year twice in a row.
Messi
36-year-old Lionel Messi was recognised at the ceremony in Paris after helping his country win the World Cup in Qatar last year.
Messi was joined at the ceremony by his wife, Antonella Roccuzzo, and their three sons, Mateo, Thiago and Ciro.
He now plays in the US for Inter Miami.
Messi was presented the award by David Beckham.
Becks said: ‘It’s very special to say he’s a Miami player and he’s in our city. He’ll celebrate this with his team-mates and his family in his way.
“We’ll do our best to celebrate it in the Miami way. I’m sure we can do a good party.’
But it was David Beckham – now an Inter Miami co-owner – who opened the floodgates for players to move to America, to play in the MLS, when he joined the LA Galaxy from Real Madrid in 2007.
England and Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham won the Kopa Trophy for the world’s best player aged under 21.
Man City dominated Ballon D’Or
Messi aside, the top ten was filled with Man City players.
Man City dominated Ballon D’Or as you can see from the top ten (below).
Old Trafford
Man City strolled to an easy win against their rivals at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Erling Haaland was the main tormentor with goals in each half before setting up a third for Phil Foden as Pep Guardiola’s side established superiority from the kick-off and rarely looked like relinquishing control.
The City fans enjoyed their day out and sung a NSFW chant about Manchester United’s current plight.
Here it is in all its ‘glory.’
*Old Trafford is falling down,
*Ten Hag is a fkn clown,
*Glazers staying 10 more years,
*Man City are on the beers.*
